A billboard sign – promoting the new aged care facility that Methven Care Trust (MCT) plans to build for the Methven community – has attracted a lot of interest over summer.

The sign was erected at Alma Place, the site of the future rest home and aged care complex, just prior to Christmas.

Methven Care Trust Chairperson Jo Suyker says she’s heard many positive comments about the sign, which showcases the trust’s new logo designed by local graphic designer Janine Peters of Designamite Graphic Design.

Janine says she designed the logo to represent the trust’s vision of bringing the community together to help care for its older family members.

“I wanted to design a logo that encompasses both what the trust is doing and why it is doing it. It is also important that the image represents the area in which we live, be something that says Methven, our place. This is where we live, this is who we are.

To this end, the design I developed was inspired by the patchwork of the crops and fields of the Canterbury Plains.

The patterns of the patchwork fields look similar to a quilted blanket which symbolises care, enveloping and being looking after.

This stylised pattern also suggests every aspect of the fundraising effort - individual pieces from all different parts of the community coming together to build this care facility,” says Janine.

If you haven’t gone and seen the sign yet, here’s another reason to do so soon.

Methven Care Trust will have an exhibit about the fundraising project at the Methven Community Open Day on Sunday 8 February. The open day has been organised by the Methven Community Board and is being held at the Mt Hutt Memorial Hall from 11am to 3pm.

Visit us to hear more about our project and if you answer two very simple questions about the sign you’ll go into the draw for a prize donated by a member of our fundraising team.

Members of the Methven Care Trust will be present to update you on recent discussions with the architects developing concept plans of the new building for public viewing. If you’ve got questions please come and see us and we’ll do our best to answer queries.

If you’re keen to get involved and help support our fundraising, which is about to ramp up with the appointment of a fundraising co-ordinator, this is the perfect time to come and introduce yourself.

Methven Care Trust is fundraising to build a new aged care facility to replace 90-year old Methven House which currently offers 13 rest home beds for elderly people in our area, as well as four senior’s flats.
